As home to Green River Builders’ newest community – Trove, we love that the City of Watkinsville and neighboring Athens are filled with great things to see and do year-round. With the earliest stirrings of Autumn waiting in the wings, we’re excited about all the Fall FUN to be had in the area. If you’re considering a move to Watkinsville, after taking a tour of Trove to pick your homesite, you might want to add one or more of the following to your seasonal bucket list….
Practice Your Air Banjo for the North Georgia Folk Festival
Presented by the Athens Folk Music and Dance Society at Sandy Creek Park, this annual folk fest will feature a day filled with live music from a slew of local folk artists. As their sweet sounds fill the air on Saturday, September 24 from 11 a.m. ‘til dark, guests will have a chance to watch arts and crafts demonstrations, as little ones take part in kid-friendly activities. A variety of food vendors will round out the scene, so come prepared to dance and dine the day away.
Get Your Fill of Fall Fun on the Farm
Each year, Bogart’s Washington Farms plays host to classic Fall Fun featuring over 35 activities that run the gamut from picking pumpkins to getting lost in a corn maze. Open DAILY from September 24 to November 6, the family-owned farm located at 5691 Hog Mountain Road, activities include rides on the cow train, petting zoo, jumping pillow, wagon rides and more. On weekends, guests can also expect the corn maze, ziplines, campfires on select nights and flower fields – just to name a few. Due to the popularity of this destination among locals, be sure to purchase your tickets in advance online!
Prepare to Get WILD at the Wildwood Revival
Designated as one of Garden & Gun Magazine’s “Southern festivals well worth adding to the calendar," the Wildwood Revival showcases a lineup of local musicians from September 30 to October 2 on the grounds of Cloverleaf Farm – just outside of Athens in neighboring Arnoldsville. In addition to live music in the shade of a pecan tree grove, this “thoughtfully curated gathering” will feature an artisan market, local food & craft beer, and onsite camping – complete with collective campfires. There’s also sunrise yoga, a gospel brunch, a guided river expedition and so much more!
Nothing But ZOMBIES on This Farm
While most farms specialize in strawberries, peanuts or even CHRISTMAS trees, Zombie Farms concentrates on the undead. This haunted trail in nearby Winterville features a ¾ mile scary stroll through dark and spooky woods filled with creepy characters on select Friday and Saturday nights from October 1-29. This year marks Zombie Farms 10th anniversary, so you may want to secure your tickets online prior to your visit in case this popular Halloween attraction sells out for the night.
Be a Part of HISTORY
Historic Athens Porchfest returns Sunday, October 2 from 1-8 p.m. – featuring 100 concerts on 100 porches in six historic Athens neighborhoods in ONE AFTERNOON. This two-time Flagpole Favorites winning event will take place in Boulevard, Buena Vista Heights, Cobbham, Newtown, Normaltown, and Pulaski Heights. It’s the ideal blend of Athens unique music scene and the vibrant vibe of some of the Classic City’s most beloved neighborhoods (outside of Trove, that is!)
Mark Your Calendar for the 48th Annual Oconee Chamber Fall Festival
It’s really no wonder why this annual event is closing in on 50 YEARS! Hosted at Rocket Field in the heart of Downtown Watkinsville on Saturday, October 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., this family-friendly Fall Festival will showcase more than 200 arts, crafts and food vendors. Best of all, admission is FREE! Don’t worry, Bulldog fans! Event sponsor BankSouth will have their famous tailgate trailer set up with a big screen TV for watching football games like UGA vs. Vandy!
Get Ready to ROMP at the Rumpus
For Athens’ rendition of a Halloween-themed Mardi Gras, the Wild Rumpus Halloween Parade and Spectacle is not to be missed! Hosted in Downtown Athens on Saturday, October 29, once the sun goes down, attendees will be treated to a parade through downtown Athens. Local artists will provide live music along the route, followed by a DJ Dance Party in the streets. Everyone is encouraged to dress up in their Halloween best and admission is FREE!
